On November 21st and 22nd, GW competed at the Great American Mock Trial Invitational (GAMTI) hosted by the University of Virginia. We would like to thank UVA, and particularly Toby Heytens, for running such a fantastic and brutally competitive tournament. Thanks also to Iowa, Columbia, Wash U and Richmond for four extremely tough rounds.
GW finished the tournament tied for first place with a record of 8-2-2. The tie was with tournament host UVA, who had an equivalent record of 9-3. The tie was broken by using combined strength (CS), which is a calculation of the strength of each team's opponents in the tournament. Unfortunately, the tie broke in UVA's favor, but by the smallest possible margin -- UVA's combined strength was a mere 0.5 points higher than GW's. As a result, GW took second place in the tournament.
GW also earned two individual awards at the tournament: Jordan Hill won an individual witness award with 22 out of 30 ranks, and Jake Chervinsky won an individual attorney award with 25 out of 30 ranks. Congratulations to both Jordan and Jake for their honors.
