During the month of February, GW's three teams competed at two Regional tournaments: the first in New Haven, CT on February 6th and 7th, and the second in Baltimore, MD on February 20th and 21st. At each Regional tournament, only the top eight teams out of around twenty-six earn bids to move on to the next competition, the Opening Round Championship Tournament. During the Regionals season, the field of competing teams is cut down from around six hundred to only one hundred and ninety-two.
In an impressive display of talent and depth, all three of GW's competing teams succeeded in earning bids to move on to the Opening Round Championship Tournament. GW's A-team took first place in New Haven with an undefeated record of 8-0, beating out Yale University for the top spot. GW's B-team took third place in Baltimore with a record of 7-1, where first and second place went to two teams from perennial powerhouse UVA. GW's C-team, an outstanding group composed entirely of freshmen competitors, took fourth place in New Haven with a record of 6-2.
According to the rules of the American Mock Trial Association, each program is permitted to send only two teams to an Opening Round Championship Tournament, regardless of the number of bids earned by that program. GW will be sending its A and B teams to the Boston, MA Opening Round on March 26th through March 28th.
